Taking a Stand

The choice I would've made is to stand back and not throw those stones. If you have nothing against a person or people then why act in a harmful way? If people call you a shame to the country and your son has not thrown stones on jews, why would you have to leave the country? It's exactly like the saying "This is your life. Shape it or someone else will". So the point is, if you don't have anything against the person then why hurt them. Its your brain and body that chooses what it does even if it means life and death, and if you're a person that doesn't want to do it, yet has to by force then you don't really have a choice.

Analyzing Visual Images

1. The picture displays the message "Healthy parents have healthy children". The entire family is smiling and bright, Everyone in the family is in good shape. They seem like a wealthy family and all of their faces are glinted with a bright texture. It is quite a large family.

2. I think this poster (message) was created to give families around Germany a glimmer of hope that all the families in Germany will turn out to become like this one. The Nazis created this to show that the country can be repaired if the vote goes to them. It shows that if the parents are healthy then their kids will be just like them. This image definitely communicates a strong purpose. This fills people with hope and would be very appealing to most countrymen.

Propaganda

The word propaganda means - Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. The Nazi's used propagandas thouroughly after the hyper-inflation, to influence people to win the election. Hitler used propaganda to brainwash and to convey a message. He conveyed the message on posters, usually, which was engaging to most Germans.

Hermann Struts: Where do they stand?

Hermann Struts is a lieutenant in the German army, he fought bravely during the war. He comes from a long line of army officers and is a graduate of the German military academy. Struts has always taken pride in the army's defense of the nation and its strong leadership. He argued that the treaty of versailles has done irreparable harm not only to Germany's honor but also to his own honor. He thinks that if the civilian government had not signed the treaty and allowed the army to fight, both he and Germany would have been better off. This example states that he would have been better off with the Nazi party because in rule number 2 of the nazi party, it claims that they call for the abolition of the Treaty of Versailles, and this is exactly what Struts desires. Another example is rule number 1 of the Nazi party: A union of all Germans to from a great Germany on the basis of the right to self-determination of peoples. Struts wanted Germany to be a strong nation, and he said that if the government had refused to sign the treaty of versailles and allowed the army to fight Germany would have been a better nation, this is his determination and opinion.

Response to Readings: "Anger and Humiliation", "Voices in the Dark"

Also, on pg. 124, carefully read the Nazi Party program.Choose two points of this program that you think are especially unfair. Why are they unfair? Which ones do you have questions about?

Number 8 is especially unfair because many of the non-Germans have already settled in and maybe they don't have any other place to go. They would have to leave their jobs and everything behind, which I think is especially unfair. They have no choice and have to leave.

Number 4 is also very unfair because Jews have been living there for ages and it is wrong to deny them citizenship as I am sure the Jews have helped Germans in many ways. Plus they have jobs, families, relatives living there so why would the Nazi party not want them to be granted citizenship?

If you had been on the train, do you think you would have said or done anything? Have you or someone you know ever had a similar experience?

If I had been on the train and people were talkin harshly about my race I would definitely have stood up for my kind. It is not right to be blamed for something you havent done and it is especially wrong to accuse a certain race who hasn't done anything to harm or destroy the country.
